We are in constant contact with the developers of chase new homes and the council as well as being on the steering group for the site as town trader’s representatives.
We have already seen the proposed plans to the site which entails commercial retail units and of course residential. The plans show an attractive food court along the river (names of which food retailers may or may not be interested in the site is still unknown). Many retail units which they are very keen to work with younger generations interests and start-up businesses in the town. They say that the hotel is still going ahead just awaiting new plans to be submitted by the beginning of December be passed by council authorities. The car park there proposing 40 spaces be reserved for residential and the rest be a pay and display again who polices the car park whether that is council or private is unknown at this time.
In the meantime Chase New Homes have already agreed to let the council have the toilets back at the bus station for the time being whilst planning goes through, the council are discussing terms with chase about this however it is our understanding that chase has let the council have them rent-free but they must maintain them. We will see.
Chase new homes directors have said that will be attending our social evening on the 7th November 7:30pm in the Duncombe Arms directly opposite the site.
We were asked by the local Hertford street market traders to get in contact over Christmas eve market in town as they were told that it wouldn’t be happening this year due to a council market in the grounds of the castle. However, we can now confirm after many emails and time that after speaking with Nick Gilby of east Herts council that there will indeed be the normal Christmas eve market at the original terms to traders. Also, the policies for the market are under revision due to the fact it is simply not working. We’ve been told that they will keep us informed and continue to ask our opinion on these matters.
Money has been granted to extend the theatre into 3 / 4 screen cinema. More information on that when we have it confirmed.
Just a reminder that we will be holding a social event on the 7th November in the Duncombe Arms from 7:30 pm everyone is welcome to join us whether you are a trader, resident or a member of the community. Come meet us and say hi, you might even want to get involved and help us in our quest to make Hertford the vibrant town it once was.
